About This Piece
If you didn't know, "Tan" is the Welsh word for fire, and this preacher man wields that name with a hellfire presence in his sermons. When he spreads the word, everyone stops to listen. But where did this enigmatic character originate?
The artist owes the creation of Mr Tan to a good friend and business partner, who conceived the character for a film that ultimately never came to fruition. Graciously, the friend allowed the artist to use the name and develop their own vision for him.
Mr Tan is well-travelled, having made it to the galleries of the Royal Academy when the original piece was D-listed for the Summer Exhibition in 2019. Although he made it into the gallery, he didn't quite make it to the wall. Perhaps it was for the best; he might have converted a few passers-by!
This is a mixed media piece consisting of giclée print on heavyweight matte 308gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper, which has then been painted over with watercolours and pencils. Supplied framed and ready to hang.
Size And Frame
The original piece is approximately 35.7cm x 29.7cm (13.8 inches x 11.7 inches). It is supplied ready to hang, mounted in a black edged frame.
