About This Piece

Fanny Pope of North Somerset was believed to be able to turn herself into a hare. She used this skill to lure hunters to her grandson’s public house, The Poult Inn, in order to make a bit of money from them. The link between Fanny and her ability to turn herself into a hare was discovered when on one fateful day she was almost caught by the hunters, and her grandson was heard to yell out ‘look out grandma, they’re almost on you!’

She evaded the hunters, but then returned to the Inn in her human form, looking like she’d been dragged through a hedge backwards. The hunters who had returned to the inn saw Fanny in this state and put two and two together. Fanny’s reputation was then cemented as a pre-eminent witch.

An original artwork made on paper, it's available framed or unframed, painted with gold ink, black ink and pencils and then varnished to protect the surface.
