About This Piece

You may have seen this lady elsewhere on the web; she often appears in widely shared blog posts like "25 Strange Old Halloween Photos From The Past." The original photo used for this piece is indeed hers, although this iteration is unique. The artist asserts that the widely circulated photo is the one he possesses, and it's been stolen and shared thousands of times, yet David owns the original.

The creation of the Harvest Queen presented an opportunity to give her a presence worthy of the majesty she embodies in the photo. While the scene is odd and uncanny—with massive pumpkins, a vacant mask, and strange light—it is also beautiful. Infused with a bit of Annwn magic, she transforms into something else entirely: a wildling, a feral Queen, dedicated to the harvest.

The image is made up from a number of different elements, old photos, digital paint, etc and Giclée printed with original Canon Lucia inks on heavyweight matte 308gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper. It is signed on and has the image's title in pencil. This piece has been exhibited at Oriel Ty Meirion.
