About This Piece

David's creation of this piece was a testament to artistic perseverance, crafted painstakingly on a failing laptop with a dying trackpad. The intricate process involved complex masking and blending techniques, requiring what he describes as "finger gymnastics" to manipulate images precisely.

Working with personal and archival photographs - including shots from St Fagans Museum of Welsh Life and vintage portraits from his own collection - David meticulously constructed the image. He digitally removed two of his children from the original background photos, transforming the composition.

The piece's selection for the 2019 National Eisteddfod of Wales in Y Lle Celf represents a pinnacle moment in David's artistic career. For him, the ultimate validation came not just from the exhibition selection, but from the metaphorical approval of the matriarchs depicted in the work - a subtle nod to the cultural and familial narratives woven into the image.

These prints are taken from the original 1/1 piece that was shown and sold at Y Lle Celf at the 2019 National Eisteddfod Of Wales.

Technical Specifications

Each print is made using the finest ingredients, and there is no low grade, unmanaged “print on demand” here. David creates, inspects, packages and posts each print himself. They are printed using a Canon Giclée printer and archival inks on heavyweight matte 308gsm Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper, ensuring both the best colour matching and archival stability.
