About This Piece

This drawing was inspired by a group of old gents photographed in Tenby, Wales, back in 1990. They were enjoying a relaxed moment on a bench when the artist, then a teenage street photographer, captured the scene. The idea to depict them emerged during art college, where the artist explored themes of giants and Welsh folklore. After a lengthy hiatus, the urge to revisit the concept returned, resulting in a challenging yet rewarding process to capture the characters' expressions. This piece has become a favourite, finally allowing the old giants to rest.

The drawing itself was made with a range of graphite pencils on an A2 (42cm x 59.4cm) piece of heavyweight cartridge paper (220gsm) and finished with a professional fixative and matt varnish.
