About This Piece

On the surface, it seems nothing can be done; the ship is in peril on the rocks, and the angel is meant to guide only after disaster. However, the artist invites viewers to find their own interpretation, hinting at a streak of humour in the image.

The original drawing combines elements from the artist's antique religious postcard collection and stock images, including the Fastnet lighthouse—a subject of personal fascination.

The drawing itself was made with a range of graphite pencils on a piece of heavyweight cartridge paper (220gsm) and finished with a professional fixative and matt varnish. It was shown at Oriel no 6 in Llantwit Major in 2024 as a part of the Winter Exhibition.
