About This Piece

The starting point was an antique CDV portrait that the artist had bought and then developed in a sketchbook piece. Its title is a line from the Angie McMahon song Fireball Whiskey, which was a regular on David's late night melancholic playlist.

The artist is unclear if she’s creating a being with her hair, or dismantling him. Either way, it’s a piece steeped in desire, longing and resignation.

The drawing itself was made with a range of graphite pencils on an A2 (42cm x 59.4cm) piece of heavyweight cartridge paper (220gsm) and finished with a professional fixative and matt varnish.
